Dance Repertory II

Course Description

Development of performance skills for dancers placed at the 200-technique level or higher through rehearsals and performances of a dance work choreographed by dance faculty or professional dance artists. Prerequisite: Pr. or Coreq.: DCE 212 or DCE 214 or higher; Notes: May be repeated for credit.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Apply diverse approaches to developing choreographic material (assessed through in-rehearsal engagement).
  • Sustain increased physical and performing stamina while realizing the choreographer’s intent (assessed through in-rehearsal practice).
  • Participate in a pre-professional model of production and performance (assessed over the term and during production weeks).
  • Demonstrate artistic integrity, performance quality, and accurate retention of repertory in rehearsal and performance settings (assessed through faculty/choreographer evaluation and performance outcomes).

Attendance/Participation:

Dancers must be fully prepared to dance at every rehearsal and communicate when injury or illness prevents or inhibits participation.

There are no excused absences during the intensive September rehearsal period or November production week.

Professional conduct is “receptiveness towards and ability to engage in all aspects of the choreographic and performance process.” Dancers must attend all scheduled rehearsals during the term and production week.

The production team will define the production week schedule as early as possible in the fall term; however, the nature of live performance and creative practice requires that the dancer prioritize production activities.

The School of Dance requires an 80% participation rate (e.g., students must attend 24 out of 30 meetings in classes that meet twice a week and 36 out of the 45 meetings in classes that meet three times a week) to get credit for the course. Sitting and watching a class does not count as participation. Students who do not meet the participation requirements may be required to repeat the procedure.
