Course Description
Introduction to theory, historical context, and technique of traditional and contemporary tap dance forms. Prerequisite: Dance or Drama Musical Theatre Concentration major; Notes: May be repeated for a maximum of two (2) credits.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Demonstrate a variety of beginning and intermediate tap steps with clarity.
- Articulate and apply technical, aural, and performative qualities to tap steps and improvisational prompts.
- Apply tap steps and technical concepts in individual and collaborative choreographic settings.
- Discuss and critically explore the historical and cultural significance of tap dance.

Attendance/Participation:
Attendance and full participation are expected. Students are allowed two excused absences. After two absences, the course grade is lowered by one-third of a letter grade.
More than five absences results in course failure.
The School of Dance requires an 80% participation rate to receive credit for the course.
