Introduction to Dance

Course Description

Studies of different dance styles through readings, dance studio experiences, discussions, and concert attendance. Notes: For non-majors.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • SLO 1 (MAC): Critically analyze claims, arguments, artifacts, or information.

  • SLO 2 (MAC): Construct coherent, evidence-based arguments.

  • SLO 3: Gain insights into dance as representative of cultural contexts and values.

  • SLO 4: Examine the role of dance and its rituals in the lives of individuals and communities (including one’s own)

Attendance/Participation:


Attendance and active participation are expected. The School of Dance requires an 80% participation rate to receive credit for the course. Students who do not meet participation requirements may be required to repeat the course.
