Clinical Procedures in Recreational Therapy

Course Description

Students learn clinical skills related to the recreational therapy process with a focus on developing individualized treatment plans; developing goals, objectives and treatment interventions; documentation skills, discharge planning and evaluation. Prerequisite: Concurrent enrollment in CTR 231 or previous credit for CTR 231; or permission of instructor.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Define evidenced-based practice in recreational therapy (7.02b)

  • Utilize RT assessment findings to develop client treatment plans (7.02a)

  • Apply the RT process to design individual and group programs and treatment plans in various settings (7.02b)

  • Write behavioral objectives that will direct clients’ treatment plans (7.02b)

  • Describe and utilize referral, discharge, and transition processes in a continuum of care (7.02b)

  • Describe the purpose and content of documentation as it related to clients, staff, programs, management, and quality assurance/improvement in RT (7.02d)

  • Write documentation as it relates to clients, programs, and quality improvement in RT (7.02d)

  • Describe and utilize program evaluation tools/methods to document client and program outcomes (7.02e)

  • Describe the roles and contributions of client, family, and significant others in the RT process (7.02a)

  • Describe the use of self as an instrument in therapeutic relationships and understand the process of developing therapeutic relationships (7.02a)
