Comprehensive understanding of the elements necessary to conduct a quality event or meeting; emphasis on skills needed to identify, create, organize, implement, and evaluate a special event, conference, or meeting.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
Design and manage special events in a variety of settings.
Explain the multiple perspectives involved in event and meeting planning.
Develop, rank and meet outcome-oriented goals and objectives for individuals and groups.
Assess programs, services and resources in relationship to the success of the event.
Understand the principles and procedures for assessment of special events related to resources, areas, and facilities.
Compare different principles and procedures for designing events and meetings.
Create and implement marketing techniques and strategies for events and meetings.
Develop and present a comprehensive event proposal.
Explain general customs, protocols and etiquette for common events.
Assess client wants and needs.
Recommend different event elements based on goals, stakeholders, and resources.
Demonstrate how to comply with professional, legal, and regulatory standards.
Demonstrate a working knowledge of the vocabulary and concepts that are integral to event management.
Effectively utilize the tools of communication, including technical writing, speech, and audio-visual techniques.

Attendance/Participation:
You are expected to attend every class! Your attendance is critical to your success, not only as a student, but also as a future working professional. You should arrive punctually and prepared with any pre-work, readings, or assignments that are due for that particular date. Any student arriving late and/or missing more than three class meetings without a valid excuse will receive no credit (0 points) for class attendance.
