Course Description
Principles and practices of management in recreation, sport, and parks agencies with emphasis on motivation, leadership, finance and budgeting, personnel policies and practices, and marketing and public relations. Prerequisite: CTR 315 or permission of instructor.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
Utilize ethical principles and professionalism within management.
Implement the fundamental principles and procedures of management.
Explain the principles and procedures of human resource management.
Apply human resource management techniques, including recruitment, selection, and evaluation of staff.
Use the principles and practices of supervisory leadership.
Develop strategies to reduce communication barriers and improve effective communications.
Utilize the principles and procedures related to agency marketing techniques and strategies.
Utilize the theories of motivation to implement strategies necessary to developing a motivating environment for organizational staff.
Identify the functions, duties, and responsibilities of a manager.
Explain the legal issues that impact the operations and management of leisure service agencies, services, facilities, and personnel.
Utilize strategic planning to guide organizational decision-making.

Attendance/Participation:
Your participation is EXPECTED. You will be evaluated throughout the semester on how much you contribute to the class discussions on a daily basis. If you make an effort to be engaged most days, you will receive maximum credit (10 points). If you largely only participate when called on throughout the semester but make an effort in these instances you will receive half-credit (5 points). If you only participate when called on and you do not take advantage of these opportunities to add to the discussion with intention you will receive no credit (0 points).
