Professional Internship Preparation in Recreation and Sport

Course Description

This course prepares students for their CTR 417/CTR 697 internship through interactive, hands-on activities that build confidence, professional skills, and understanding of internship expectations. Prerequisite: CTR 315; RPMT, SMRT majors.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Update professional cover letters, resumes, and professional references for internship applications.
  • Strengthen interview skill sets and identify professional strengths and skill sets required in an internship work environment.
  • Identify and apply to concentration-specific internship sites; RT students must seek internship supervision by an LRT, CTRS.
  • Utilize assessments to identify preferred learning styles and communication styles to better connect/identify with future internship supervisors and the internship learning experience.
  • Problem-solve ethical and professional dilemmas typically encountered in internship experiences.
  • Be introduced to pre-internship Canvas course assignments, application paperwork, affiliation agreements, and onboarding requirements.

Attendance/Participation:

There are 15 weekly units for this semester. To get attendance points, you must attend class (6.67 points per class- 100 points in total). Other exceptions can be made with prior notice and approval from the instructor.
