Navigating College Life

Course Description

Interactive seminar designed to build on student's knowledge of personal responsibility skills required for successful navigation of life on campus and in community. Prerequisite: Integrative Community Studies student

Syllabus

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Identify and describe the purpose of at least five (5) campus resources and explain how each resource can support student success through class discussions, assignments, or presentations.
  • Select the most appropriate campus resource given a variety of college-related scenarios and justify their choice.
  • Independently access and engage with at least five (5) campus resources during the semester and document their experiences through reflections, resource logs, or assignments.
  • Demonstrate self-advocacy by initiating at least three (3) communications or interactions with instructors, advisors, or campus staff to ask questions, seek assistance, or address academic needs.
  • Evaluate available support options and develop action plans that identify appropriate resources to address specific academic, personal, or college-related goals.
  • Demonstrate increased independence by completing campus navigation activities, attending scheduled academic appointments, participating in educational campus events, and reflecting on how these experiences contributed to their success and confidence throughout the semester.

Attendance/Participation:

You may have up to three absences for any reason during the semester. University holidays do not count as absences.

After three absences, one point per absence will be taken off your final grade.

Three occasions when you arrive late or leave early will count as one absence.

Your Practicum Instructor may be notified if attendance concerns occur.

If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get missed notes from a peer or handouts from the instructor. Use instructor’s office hours to obtain notes or handouts.
