Course Description
Introduction to student-centered academic planning and goal setting with an emphasis on strategies for success in a college environment. Prerequisite: Integrative Community Studies student

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:
Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Appropriately utilize a course syllabus for academic success. Students will be able to identify and explain key components of a course syllabus, including course requirements, instructor contact information and office hours, attendance and grading policies, assignments, and due dates, and use this information to support their academic success.
- Identify and utilize basic time management strategies for academic success. Students will learn basic time management and organizational strategies to help them be successful in college and daily life.
- Identify and understand the purpose of academic campus resources. Students will identify academic campus resources and explain how each resource can support their academic success.
- Communicate within academic support circles. Students will develop communication skills by learning how to communicate effectively with people who support their academic success, such as instructors, tutors, mentors, and support staff.
- Define self-awareness and describe personal characteristics that will promote academic growth & development. Students will identify their personal strengths, challenges, learning styles, and support needs to effectively advocate for themselves across multiple settings.

Attendance/Participation:
Showing up and being on time are important professional skills. Students are expected to attend class as scheduled, arrive on time, stay for the full class period, and email the instructor if you will be late or absent.
You may have up to three absences for any reason during the semester. University holidays do not count as absences. After three absences, one point per absence will be taken off your final grade. Three occasions when you arrive late or leave early will count as one absence.
Your Practicum Instructor may be notified if attendance concerns occur.
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get missed notes from a peer or handouts from the instructor. Use instructor’s office hours to obtain notes or handouts.
