Communication and Community

Course Description

Exploration of role and impact of communication in diverse communities. Ethical and social responsibilities of civic action are examined in the context of community problem solving. Includes service learning experience in a supervised setting.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Critically analyze arguments, artifacts, or information.

  • Construct coherent, evidence-based arguments.

  • Integrate and cite sources accurately and correctly.

  • Explain the relationship between communication and community.

  • Identify and critically analyze the impact of a social issue relevant to our community from a communication perspective.

  • Articulate the role of service-learning in higher education and develop a capacity for active participation in your community.
