Introduction to Audiology

Course Description

Basic anatomy and physiology of the human auditory system, fundamental hearing science, and methods and techniques of hearing measurement and interpretation for the assessment, diagnosis, evaluation, and rehabilitation of hearing disorders. Prerequisite: Speech Pathology/Audiology and Interpreting, Deaf Education, and Advocacy Services majors only.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Each student will describe the basic anatomy of human auditory system. (ASHA Standard IV-C)
  • Each student will describe pathologies that impact hearing ability. (ASHA Standard IV-C)
  • Each student will discuss the basic audiometric test procedures. (ASHA Standard IV-D)
  • Each student will learn to interpret a basic audiogram (hearing test). (ASHA Standard IVD)

The textbook for this class is Frederick N Martin and John Greer Clark's "Introduction to Audiology". Please use 13th edition or upwards. The new edition is the 14th edition. Online copies are available through UNCG First Day Complete.
