Course Description

Anatomical and physiological bases of human communication. Prerequisite: Majors only, or by permission of instructor; Corequisite: Must be taken concurrently with CSD 306, CSD 307, and CSD 308; Notes: Not open to freshmen or sophomores.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Identify & explain foundational anatomical terms and tissues

  • Identify & explain the support structures of the respiratory, articulatory and laryngeal systems

  • Identify & explain the function of muscles in the respiratory, articulatory and laryngeal systems

  • Identify & explain the neurologic structures and pathways associated with speech production

  • Integrate information within specific systems (ex. Respiratory system, articulatory system, laryngeal system, nervous system) to describe human communication

  • Apply course concepts to clinical situations to demonstrate understanding of the importance of Anatomy and Physiology in the Communication Sciences and Disorders field
