Course Description
Acoustic principles of speech and hearing; analysis of the acoustic characteristics of speech and physiological correlates; speech perception. Prerequisite: Majors only, or by permission of instructor; Corequisite: Must be taken concurrently with CSD 306, CSD 308, and CSD 309; Notes: Not open to freshmen or sophomores.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:
Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Identify the basic characteristics of sound.
- Distinguish the physical and psychoacoustic properties of sound.
- Demonstrate understanding of the sound properties through performing different calculations.
- Describe the concept of Fourier analysis of a complex sound.
- Apply the principals of acoustics on speech production and speech perception.
- Utilize technical terms associated with speech and hearing sciences.
- Interpret graphic representations of speech signals (spectrograms).

Late Work (Quizzes & Exams): I will deduct five (5) points for late quizzes and 10 points for late midterm exams. If you do not contact me within 12 hours of missing a quiz or exam, you will receive a score of ‘zero’ (0). There will be no extensions on late or missed final exams.
