Syllabus
Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:
The goal of this course is to help students understand the fundamentals of the design, data models, and analysis of modern databases through assignments/projects. Particularly, the topics covered in this course include modern database models, database languages and design, user interface and operations, applications design, and other selected topics of current interest such as big data, data analytics, XML, and complex data types.
Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
Design a database satisfying a set of requirements using Entity-Relationship model,
Understand relational data model, relational algebra, and SQL language,
Understand theories of relational database design including functional dependencies and normalization,
Understand XML technologies,
Understand complex data types,
Understand big data,
Explore data warehousing and data mining technologies.
By developing a real-world web application step by step, the students can enhance their understanding of the fundamental concepts and theories of databases.
