Web Development

Course Description

Introduction to concepts of web application development, including web page structure and appearance, client-side interactivity and behavior, web services and APIs, server-side scripting, persistent data storage, and software version control. Prerequisite: Grade of C- or better in CSC 230 and CSC 261, or permission of instructor.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  1. Explain the basic technological components of modern world wide web development.

  2. Design and implement web page content layout and styling.

  3. Utilize scripting and backend programming languages to dynamically generate page content on the webserver.

  4. Interact with remote resources using HTTP and REST protocols.

  5. Utilize the appropriate tools, languages, and frameworks to write a "full stack" website.

  6. Demonstrate proficiency using software versioning tools and cloud solutions.

Attendance/Participation:

You are expected to attend this class in person. This class moves very fast, so try not to miss class. Attendance may be recorded at any time during the class session, and the total number and timing of attendance checks are at the instructor’s discretion. I reserve the right to drop any student from the course after three (3) unexcused absences or for any student who misses submitting 2 assignments in a row. The Withdrawal Due to Class Attendance form serves as a request to withdraw students from class due to excessive absences.

Class periods will occasionally include a participation grade based on class activities, therefore even if you have an excused absence, you may not get a participation grade for a missed activity.
