Course Description

A literature-based seminar focusing on scientific literature databases and presentation skills. Prerequisite: CHE 780.

Syllabus

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Learn to develop a research topic for presentation
  • Learn to examine the literature and critically evaluate data around the research topic, particularly with an eye for what should be presented
  • Learn how to write an abstract of a scientific seminar on the topic
  • Learn how to present the scientific seminar, including the ability to field questions from an audience of faculty and peers.

Attendance/Participation:

Attendance is absolutely required in this course. If you miss a seminar, you will be required to make it up by attending another seminar. This can be in any department at or even seminars in the evening of a scientific topic. You will have to send me a digest of the seminar you attend, as well.

If attendance is not made up, then your final grade will be lowered by at least one full letter grade.
