Course Description

Oral reports from the current literature of chemistry by the students, as well as attendance at presentations by other students, staff, and guest speakers. Prerequisite: CHE 401 or equivalent.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Formulate a hypothesis and plan of work for chemistry or biochemistry research.
  • Critically evaluate current literature in the areas of chemistry and biochemistry.
  • Present scientific research to a broad audience.
  • Write a formal research proposal similar in style to an NIH or NSF grant.
  • Discuss the proposed work in an oral presentation.
  • Defend scientific ideas to a committee or panel.

Attendance/Participation:

Attendance will be taken at the weekly departmental seminars. This is worth 10% of the course grade.
