Course Description
Research methods in counseling; clinical assessment tools and issues; contemporary issues and trends in counselor education, including professional and ethical issues and global perspectives. Prerequisite: Advanced doctoral standing in counselor education and recommendation of doctoral adviser.

Apply the use of theory in research, by identifying a theory or model and connecting it to one’s research idea [CACREP standards 4a, 4.g, 4.l]
Understand how to use literature to develop a research question that is appropriate for professional research and publication in counseling [CACREP standards 4.a, 4.g]
Select appropriate sampling procedures for a particular research design [CACREP standards 4.a, 4.g]
Select appropriate instrumentation and/or data collection methods [CACREP standards 4.a, 4.e]
Evaluate psychometrics of instrumentation [CACREP standards 4.e]
Discuss how data collection methods, along with research questions and methodology, play a role in data analysis selection and select data analysis methods within a particular research design [CACREP standards 4.a, 4.b, 4.c, 4.g]
Synthesize research and theory to develop a research proposal (including current literature, significance of the study, research questions, and methods) for publication and/or grant proposal [CACREP standards 4.a, 4.b, 4.c, 4.d, 4.g, 4.h, 4.l]
