Course Description
Develop understanding and skills in the theory and practice of group work, the relationship of group activities to counseling, and fundamental group counseling techniques. Prerequisite: CED 610, CED 620, and counseling major; Corequisite: CED 653.

Articulate the theoretical foundations of group counseling and group work [CACREP standard 3.F.1]
Understand the therapeutic factors of group work and how they contribute to group effectiveness [CACREP standard 3.F.2]
Explain the characteristics and functions of effective group leaders [CACREP standard 3.F.3]
Describe approaches to group formation, including recruiting, screening, and selecting members [CACREP standard 3.F.4]
Describe the application of technology related to group counseling and group work [CACREP standard 3.F.5]
Classify the types of groups, settings, and other considerations that affect conducting groups [CACREP standard 3.F.6]
Explain culturally sustaining and developmentally responsive strategies for designing and facilitating groups [CACREP standard 3.F.7]
Identify ethical and legal considerations relative to the delivery of group counseling and group work across service delivery modalities [CACREP standard 3.F.8]
Participate as a group member in a group counseling process group for a minimum of 10 clock hours over the course of one academic term [CACREP standard 3.F.9]
