Attendance/Participation:
Due to the experiential nature of this course, class attendance is required and essential for your learning. It is your responsibility to make sure you are counted present each day by signing the attendance sheet.
You are permitted two absences (excused/unexcused) over the course of the semester before your grade is affected. This includes absence due to illness, injury, crisis, or emergency. It is recommended that you hold on to the absence until you need it as each additional absence will result in the loss of 3 points per absence from your participation grade.
Tardiness and leaving class early are disruptive to class and disrespectful to others in the learning community; please be on time and do not leave until class is dismissed. Class will begin promptly at the scheduled time and end at the scheduled time. Chronic disruptions to class due to late arrivals and leaving early will affect your final grade – each tardy or leaving early will result in the loss of one point per occurrence from your attendance grade.
Absences for exams, quizzes, and activities will be excused only in special curricular requirements (e.g., judging trips, field trips, professional conferences), military obligation, severe weather conditions, religious holidays and participation in official university activities, and court-imposed legal obligations (e.g., jury duty or subpoena). You must communicate this with the instructor in advance.
