Course Description

Covers the legal, ethical, and professional standards that addiction professionals must adhere to from client screening through recovery. Ethical decision-making models and professional licensing and credentialing will be discussed. Also covers provider wellness and self-care.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Increase knowledge related to professional ethics in working with clients experiencing addiction

  • Understand legal considerations specific to addiction treatment

  • Understand knowledge related to supervision, credentialing, and licensing in the addiction field

  • Increase awareness of signs of burnout, vicarious trauma and gain understanding of the importance of provider self-care and wellness when working with members of the addiction population

  • Increase knowledge of history of addiction including prevalence, etiology, and the impact of addiction

Attendance/Participation:

In this asynchronous course, "attendance" is measured by your active participation and timely completion of course activities rather than traditional in-person or scheduled online meetings.
