Course Description
This course promotes students' knowledge and skills that foster satisfying and healthy personal relationships. Students will learn strategies to strengthen all relationships, with a primary focus upon intimate partnerships.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
Describe fundamental characteristics that underlie safe, healthy, satisfying relationships.
Explain how core relationship skills can be applied to a diverse set of relationship situations to promote positive relationship outcomes.
Identify assumptions and biases about human relationships commonly held in U.S. society and think critically about how these assumptions align with research and theory-based understandings of relationships.
Explain common relationship challenges and identify potential solutions to address these challenges and foster positive relationship outcomes.
Identify community resources that foster safe, healthy relationships and describe how these resources can support community members with various relationship concerns.
Articulate their values and ethics related to close interpersonal relationships and describe how their cultural contexts have impacted these values and ethics.
Explain how community and other social contexts can either support or hinder people’s functioning in relationships.

Attendance/Participation:
Regular class attendance is a responsibility and a privilege of university education. It is fundamental to the orderly acquisition of knowledge. Students should recognize the advantages of regular class attendance, accept it as a personal responsibility, and apprise themselves of the consequences of poor attendance.
Due to the heavily discussion-based nature of this class, in-class attendance and participation are critical to your success. As your instructor, I will attempt to encourage your active participation in class, which will be reflected in your final grade.
