Organizational Leadership

Course Description

The course examines the theories and models of leadership. Environmental pressures, organizational objectives, company culture, and individual ethical standards will be examined to incorporate the situational determinants of leadership effectiveness. Prerequisite: Sophomore standing.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Define leadership and distinguish leadership from management.
  • Compare major approaches to leadership, including trait, skills, behavioral, situational, path-goal, leader-member exchange, transformational, servant, ethical, team, and social identity approaches.
  • Apply leadership theories to real organizational problems and leadership development decisions.
  • Assess personal values, beliefs, leadership tendencies, and ethical standards.
  • Identify how leading a team differs from leading a group of individuals.
  • Identify challenges involved in leading virtual, hybrid, and geographically dispersed teams.
  • Describe how culture, identity, and context shape leadership perceptions and outcomes.
  • Use generative AI transparently and critically when permitted, with attention to accuracy, bias, privacy, and professional responsibility.
