Course Description

Students learn to identify, analyze, use, and interpret data to solve problems and make decisions. Interactive data activities, case studies, videos, lectures, and dialogue will facilitate student understanding.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Have developed a baseline level of data literacy and be critical consumers of data.
  • Be able to explore and apply steps in the research/evaluation process, including data analysis and communicating quantitative results to audiences of varying technical expertise.
  • Be able to explain how parts of the research process fit together and why the process is important for the creation of knowledge.

Course Grading Information:

This course uses a cumulative points grading system. There are no weighted categories (e.g., exams, participation, or projects). Each assignment has a designated point value, and all assignments contribute directly to the final course grade. A student's final grade is based on the total number of points earned divided by the total number of points possible in the course.

The University defines class attendance to be your responsibility as a student. Evidence of attendance in an asynchronous, online course can be demonstrated by correct application of assigned learning content (textbook, videos, other assigned readings, etc.) to the coursework, your timely submission of assignments, and your contribution in discussion forums and group work.
