Course Description

Advanced work in visual art combining studio practice, seminar discussions of contemporary art texts and group critiques. Prerequisite: Admitted to MFA in studio arts.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a self-directed development of significant and ambitious art practices.
  • Articulate a contextual awareness of their art practice in relation to historical and contemporary issues in art and culture.
  • Analyze context in relation to the production of meaning.
  • Utilize media and material tactically for both conceptual and aesthetic intention.
  • Articulate a ‘Personal Model of Artistic Practice’ and to relate to their peers as well as to other artists through the categorical criteria of this ‘model’
