Course Description
Through independent and student-directed studio work and discipline-based writing and speaking intensive projects, students will engage in analytical discourse related to professional practice as a new media artist and designer in preparation to exhibit, present, and promote their work. Prerequisite: ART major, New Media and Design concentration; ART 441 or ART 442 or ART 445 or ART 446 or ART 443.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- engage in serious, self-directed, and independent studio work that demonstrates personal direction and evolution.
- verbally analyze and evaluate studio work in progress, both their own and that of others.
- acquire professional tools and skills applicable to establishing a career after graduation.
- write discipline-based statements and essays.
- deliver oral presentations of independent studio projects that follow the model of professional conference presentations in the discipline.
- research and apply to discipline-specific opportunities for residencies, grants, exhibitions, competitions, and employment opportunities
- create a resume and final portfolio of work.

Attendance/Participation:
Students are permitted three unexcused absences for any reason with no impact on your grade. Each absence beyond the third will lead to a reduction of one grade "step" (A to A-, A- to B+,etc.) Absences will be considered excused if accompanied by a note from a doctor or health service, or a note on school letterhead from a coach, professor or administrator.
Keep in mind that a steady stream of absences(excused or not) will affect the quality of your work, and so can have a negative impact on your final grade. Three latenesses or early departures will equal one absence.
