Printmaking is a practice made better through discipline, as well as consistent, focused work. The only way you get better is by making a lot of drawings steadily and with commitment. If you make significant improvement in your drawings over the course of the semester, you will likely do well in this class. Plan to spend 6-8 hours on this course OUTSIDE of class per week. This includes developing ideas/drawings. CLASS TIME IS DEVOTED TO STUDIO WORK SO MAKE USE OF IT! Come to class ready to work!
A=exceptional, print exceeds expectations and is demonstrative of understanding of the drawing/processing and printing processes. Print is the result of evident focus, exhibits personal investment and steady, persistent work both in and outside of class.
B=very good work, though print does not entirely demonstrate an understanding of assignment concepts.
C= print meets expectations, but minimally.
D= print is begun but is marginally complete.
F=Print does not exist.
We will be using Canvas to submit your work. Be sure you are documenting your process as you work and take high quality (well lit) pictures of your final works. Critiques are mandatory to attend and participate in, but you must ALSO submit your work on Canvas to get credit!
Attendance/Participation:
Being that this is a studio class, attendance at all classes is mandatory and very important. Your attendance is directly correlated to doing well in this class. You are allowed three excused absences for this class, I recommend that you reserve these for unexpected situations such as illness or family emergency. Any absences beyond these three will result in your final grade being dropped by a letter increment. For instance An A would become an B and so on.
We will CRITIQUE work in class as a group, and you will be submitting images of your final work on CANVAS. You MUST submit your work to canvas to receive a grade!
CRITIQUES ARE MANDATORY. If you miss a critique without a previously discussing directly with me your work will be docked a letter grade for that assignment.
TARDINESS
Tardiness is a disruption to our classroom. THREE TARDIES EQUAL ONE ABSENCE. THE SAME POLICY APPLIES TO LEAVING CLASS EARLY. Do not schedule meetings with your advisor or your doctor during our class time as these will not be excused.
