There is no discrete grade given for classroom participation in discussions and critiques (although critique attendance is mandatory.) Rather, the goal of critiques is to hone your ability to talk, think about and defend your own work; to begin to be able to analyze and judge your work in progress.
Attendance/Participation:
I take attendance at the start of each class. You will be permitted three unexcused absences for any reason with no impact on your grade. Each absence beyond the third will lead to a reduction of one grade "step" (A to A-, A- to B+, etc.)
Absences will be considered excused if accompanied by a note from a doctor or health service, or a note on school letterhead from a coach, professor or administrator. Keep in mind that a steady stream of absences (excused or not) will affect the quality of your work, and so can have a negative impact on your final grade. Three latenesses or early departures will equal one absence.
NOTE: A technical course like this one only works if we start with the introduction of new tools or concepts, and then move on to your working individually on your projects in class. Since I begin my technical demos at the start of each class, it is important that you be here on-time as class begins, or you will miss important material.
Course Materials Purchased by the Students:
- 2 sheet 12” x 19” inexpensive black drawing paper
- 2 sheet 12” x 19” inexpensive white drawing paper
- Glue stick, scissors or Xacto knife
- A device to take digital photos (phone camera is fine)
- A second backup location such as OneDrive, Google Drive, or another approved cloud service
- A drawing glove when using a Cintiq display
