Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • To gain competency and skill in drawing not only the human body but also knowledge in applying these skills to any kind of drawing activity, from perception to invention and abstraction.

The professor will provide verbal feedback from individual and group critiques during the semester; these do not include grading artworks. Midterm grades will be posted but do not affect the final grade. The final grade is based on the portfolio and presentation, including quality and improvement. Participation is graded only during the final presentation and question session.

Attendance/Participation:

Attendance is mandatory during the final portfolio presentations. One absence on presentation days results in a one letter grade reduction; two absences result in a two letter grade reduction.

Each student has an allotment of four absences; beyond this, grades are reduced as follows: 5 absences = 1 letter grade reduction, 6 absences = 2 letter grade reductions, 7 absences = fail the course.

Each student has an allotment of four tardies; beyond this, grades are reduced as follows: 5 tardies = 1 letter grade reduction, 6 tardies = 2 letter grade reductions, 7 tardies = fail the course.

Late homework assignments may be granted a one-week extension if requested in writing at least three days before the due date. Two missed assignments cause no grade reduction; 3 missed = 1 letter grade reduction; 4 missed = 2 letter grade reductions; 5 missed = 3 letter grade reductions; 6 missed = fail the course.

  • Pad of Newsprint Paper, 18” x 24”
  • Drawing board
  • Drawing board ‘banana’ clips (2)
  • 4B “Generals” brand charcoal pencils (7)
  • 6B “Generals” brand charcoal pencils (7)
  • Cans of spray fixative (2), not ‘workable’ fixative and must say “matte finish”
  • Pink pearl erasers (3-5)
  • Utility knife with retractable blade
  • Fine grade sandpaper (paddle)
