Attendance/Participation:
Attendance will be taken at every class and consistent/perfect attendance is directly correlated to doing well in Art 220. Every semester I observe that those students who attend class consistently do much better grade-wise than those students who miss classes. For this class I am allowing three absences. It is my recommendation that you reserve these absences for unexpected situations such as illness or family emergency because every absence you incur beyond THREE absences will result in points being deducted from your overall final grade. Of course if you are genuinely sick and your illness takes you beyond these three absences, I will work with you. DO NOT COME TO CLASS IF YOU ARE SICK.
Tardiness is a disruption to our classroom. THREE TARDIES EQUAL ONE ABSENCE. THE SAME POLICY APPLIES TO LEAVING CLASS EARLY. Do not schedule meetings with your advisor or your doctor during our class time as these will not be excused.
Course Materials Purchased by the Students:
- Sketchbook: No smaller than 8.5x11 in. You will keep a sketchbook in this class. Your sketchbook will be a place of play and experimentation. You can use any material you like and draw in any way you wish. I will give you a series of 10 sketchbook prompts, worth 3 points each. You can complete these prompts at your own pace, though I expect half of them to be complete by the middle of the semester, and half by the end. These prompts are located in the module labeled SKETCHBOOK.
- Drawing Pencils: 2B, 4B, 6B pencils (drawing pencil set; the wider the range the better)
- Ink Pen set: at least have a small, medium, and large (sharpie sets can work)
- 18"x24" Mixed media pad of paper.
- Drawing board able to fit 18"x24" paper, in this link, it would be the 23.5"X26"
- Matte medium An 8oz bottle is fine.
- Xacto knife
- Cutting Mat (optional): no smaller than 9x12 in.
- Scissors, any size you like to work with
- Staedtler Mars Plastic Eraser
- 2-3 Charcoal Pencils (dark)
- Kneaded eraser size extra large
- Pencil bag or container to hold your pencils, markers, glue, scissors, erasers and charcoal pencils--you will want these to be together and easily portable. A gallon-size ziplock bag works great!
- Compressed Charcoal squares (3 pack is fine)
- Workable Fixative
- Paint brushes: at least a small, medium, and large brush
