Basic course in the practice and principles of drawing. Emphasis on working from observation with a wide variety of media and genres explored.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Draw varied subject matter from direct observation.
- Draw using organizational lines from direct observation.
- Draw using empirical measurement from direct observation.
- Draw with linear perspective from direct observation and imagination.
- Draw using cross contour to address topology of forms.
- Verbally address drawings with art terminology and formal analysis.

Attendance/Participation:
After three absences your final grade will be lowered by one letter per absence.
Failure to comply with the following counts as half an absence.
Students should arrive on time and stay the duration of the class.
From the third week of class on, students should have adequate amounts of all required materials for working that day.
Students should maintain focus for the entire class.
Course Materials Purchased by the Students:
- Drawing Board – able to hold an 18”x 24” sheet of paper, Masonite, no texture
- Large Sketch Pad – 18”x 24” 80lb. or heavier, 30 sheets or so.
- Only 4b, or higher numerically, pencils- several
- Charcoal pencils
- Pencil Sharpener
- Compressed Charcoal (pastel) - 12 pack
- Vine/Willow Charcoal – 15- 30 pack
- Erasers - Pink Pearl, Kneaded, Generals Factis/Vinyl, Gum
- Chamois cloth
- Masking Tape
- 18” ruler, straightedge, yardstick
- Soft pastels, not oil, a variety of hues, the greater the quantity and quality the better
- Elmers’s glue
- Scissors
- A bag or box to carry materials
