Studio IV: Creative and Technical Design

Course Description

Principles and methods of product design with an emphasis on creative and experimental approaches. Development of visual vocabulary and knowledge of trend prediction to generate design ideas. Use of diverse materials and structures for three-dimensional design. Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C (2.0) in APD 244 and APD 341

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Analyze/Identify the current market trends in the fashion industry
  • Develop an avatar based on the actual body measurement and make a 3-D garment prototype
  • Apply pattern grading concepts, including the understanding of grade rules to problem solving situations relative to garment fit
  • Analyze concepts of fit and critique garment prototypes
  • Participate in garment analysis and problem-solving discussions
  • Gain a deeper understanding of current sustainable issues in the apparel industry and apply knowledge and skills to develop sustainable products that are innovative, practical, and aesthetically pleasing
  • Create an apparel product line, including garments and technical packages to build an apparel portfolio
