Course Description
Development of apparel designs by flat pattern and draping techniques and original design process. Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C (2.0) in APD 252.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
To apply the principles and methods of pattern making introduced in APD252 and to create complex apparel patterns.
To interpret the connection between draping and flat pattern work to create patterns.
To develop the advanced patternmaking and garment construction skills necessary to design and construct intricate apparel garments.
To utilize 3D visualization software for design development.

Attendance/Participation:
Attendance, punctuality, and productive participation are required. Absences will have an effect on your final grade. Two tardies &/or early departures will count as one absence.
For each absence after three, the final course grade may be reduced 3 points.

Text: The Art of Fashion Draping, by Amaden-Crawford (any edition is fine)
Text: Patternmaking for Fashion Design, by Joseph-Armstrong (any edition is fine)
Kit of Juki parts (Bobbins, cases, presser feet, and needles for the sewing machines in the lab)
100% cotton muslin (many yards – unbleached 44-48” wide)
pencils – non- mechanical for draping
red and blue colored pencils
straight pins
sewing supplies (needles, thread, etc.)
patternmaking supplies (rulers, notchers, hooks, etc.)
drawing supplies
means of storing computer files
other supplies as needed for design project
