Course Description
Development of a professional design portfolio that will emphasize investigation of specific apparel markets, target customers, seasons and fabrications, and various illustrative techniques. Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C (2.0) in APD 244 and APD 252

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:
Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Effectively communicate apparel designs professionally, demonstrating skill with various media and an understanding of aesthetics
- Design cohesive groups of apparel within specific parameters such as season, target customer, pricing category, and market
- Investigate and report on the creative process and aesthetic of influential designers and apply the knowledge when creating original designs
- Develop and suggest creative design approaches to fashion that can contribute to socioecological resilience by discovering a unique way of upcycling unwearable/useless products

The instructors will make every effort to keep accurate grade records. However, it is student responsibility to monitor the records and keep all materials related to the course. Grade related claims must be submitted by e-mail until Wed/Dec 9/2026. After this date, no grade-related claims will be accepted.

Attendance/Participation:
Since this is an online course, your attendance and participation will be evaluated through online activities such as Photoshop & Illustrator activities, discussions, and project.
Students are expected to log in to the Canvas course site at least 2–3 times per week to check announcements, participate in discussions, and complete assignments.
There may be mandatory virtual meetings via Microsoft Teams. These will be announced through Canvas. A functioning computer camera and microphone are required for participation.
Failure to log in for more than 7 consecutive days without notifying the instructor may be considered non-participation and could impact your grade. The instructor reserves the right to drop a student from the course after repeated unnotified absences.

- Schneider, R. (2012). Adobe for fashion: Illustrator CS6 (The ultimate guide to drawing flats). New York, NY: New York Cookie Graphics.
- USB drive (storage device for computer files), sketchpad, pencils and erasers, and other supplies for the design project as needed.
- Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator software (available in ITS-managed classrooms or labs; personal purchase optional at $39.99 per month with student discount from Adobe website).
