Course Description
An introduction to foundational data analysis skills, tools, and methods in archaeology. Students learn to create, manage, analyze, interpret patterns, visualize, and make arguments using quantitative data drawn from a range of archaeological materials and contexts (artifacts and ecofacts, burials, settlements, etc).

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
Apply quantitative analysis to understand the natural world. (MAC SLO #1)
Analyze and interpret quantitative data to evaluate and test hypotheses about the natural world. (MAC SLO #2)
Construct and interpret data tables, charts, graphs, or other representations of scientific data. (MAC SLO #3)
Identify how data is derived from archaeological artifacts, sites, and excavation results.
Explain how to make methodologically appropriate choices in how to organize and/or manage data to answer archaeological questions.
Critically examine how archaeological data informs an argument.
