Explores the historical experiences of women of African descent in America through an evaluation of relevant literature, film, and/or music. Prerequisite: ADS 205 and ADS 210 recommended.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:
Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- To better understand the histories of African American women’s motherhood transitions through a cultural exploration of maternal care traditions of America and the African Diaspora; to analyze a range of written, oral, and visual sources in the construction of African American maternal care traditions.

Attendance/Participation:
Beyond the first class of the semester, each absence will lead to a single-point reduction (out of total of 100 points) in the student’s overall grade in the course. Absence constitutes failure to complete the in-class participation exercise.
